Custom Orthoses

Used where appropriate to support load management and recovery

Custom orthoses can be helpful in some cases — but they are not always necessary.

They are used to modify how load is distributed through the foot and lower limb, particularly when specific tissues are under excessive stress.

At Precision Gait Clinic, orthoses are only prescribed when assessment findings indicate they are likely to be beneficial.

What Orthoses Are Designed To Do

Orthoses are designed to:

Redistribute pressure across the foot
Modify how load is applied during walking
Reduce strain on specific tissues
Support rehabilitation by improving load tolerance

They do not correct foot structure or replace strengthening.

When Orthoses May Be Appropriate

Orthoses may be considered where:

The decision is always based on your individual assessment findings.

How They Fit Into Your Plan

Orthoses are typically used alongside:

They are part of a broader treatment approach — not a standalone solution.

Important

Some patients improve without orthoses.

Others benefit from short- or medium-term support.

Orthoses may help reduce load, but they do not address the underlying mechanical drivers or capacity deficits.

Long-term improvement depends on restoring strength and load tolerance.

Book Your Assessment

Orthoses are only prescribed following a 60–90 minute biomechanics assessment.

Structured, unrushed, and focused on identifying the cause of your pain.
